THE SUPER SECRET ATLAS° HOTEL MARATHON SURVIVAL GUIDE
Your unofficial, mildly questionable, and totally necessary guide to conquering the Queen City Marathon - one bad joke and blister at a time.
- DON'T PANIC... okay, maybe a little panic
- Just kidding. Inhale... exhale... you've got this. You'll cross that finish line in one piece. Probably.
- Warm up (the fun way)
- Sure, you could stretch... or you could stretch your stomach first at The Knotted Thistle Pub. A Yard of Beer + our Wild Mushroom & Chicken Penne = the kind of carb load dreams are made of. *chef's kiss*
- Draft your excuses early
- Not sure you'll make it to the end? Better get your alibis straight. Classics include:
- "My GPS told me to turn left... so I did."
- "Someone said I was 'almost there' at kilometre 12. I quit in protest."
- Not sure you'll make it to the end? Better get your alibis straight. Classics include:
- Chafe happens
- Marathons: where you discover entirely new places to be sore. Protect yourself (and your dignity) with Bodyglide or Vaseline. Your future self will write you a thank-you card.
- Sleep is your secret weapon
- Stay with the official QCM host hotel (pssst... that's us) and you'll be tucked in as snug as a bug in a rug. Got trouble sleeping? Call our Front Desk, and the Guest Ambassadors just might read you a bedtime story.
- *or you can let Samuel L Jackson lull you to sleep. Your choice, but listen at your own risk; there is explicit language.

- MOVE IT!
- Run, walk, shuffle, skip, interpretive dance... we're not here to judge your form, just keep moving forward until someone hands you a medal.
- Drink like a champ (the right stuff)
- Electrolytes might sound fancy, but plain old water is still the real MVP. And just to be clear - we mean fresh water, not the kind your dog sneaks from the toilet bowl. 🐾
- *The Atlas° Hotel does not endorse toilet hydration, no matter how refreshing Fido makes it look!

- Out of steam at kilometre 16?
- Picture this: a duck once finished a marathon. A DUCK! Are you really going to let a bird waddle past you? Didn't think so. Bonus tip: quacking while you run may (or may not) make you faster.
- Flip the script
- Instead of "Ugh, marathons are the worst", try "Hey, I'm probably not going to die today". Positive vibes = faster legs. Science-ish.
- Celebrate like you mean it
- At the finish line, you can:
- Pull off The Running Man
- Collapse gracefully into The Worm
- Pretend you meant to fall over
- Either way, end it with style.
- At the finish line, you can:
You did it! You survived the Queen City Marathon! Now peel off those heroic yet questionably scented shoes, patch up the blisters (you've earned the battle scars), and settle in for your next endurance event: a well-deserved recovery.
You've got options: collapse on the couch and binge-watch Netflix for three days straight or keep the celebration going with your fellow finishers at the Knotted Thistle Pub. Show off your QCM medal and we'll treat you to a drink of your choice, on us.
And while you're here, fuel up with our Chicken & Mushroom Penne for $15 and pair it with Bushwakker's specially crafted race-weekend feature brew, "Gose To The Finish," for $13. Because if you can run 42.2 km, you've more than earned the right to celebrate in style.
